Ivy-Cottage – Welwyn 30 Dec. 1875. Lieve Vincent, Dank voor het ons gezondene, hoe lief van je zoo aan ons te denken. Choco - lade wordt hier ook – Real Consola - tion gevonden / vooral door Nelly. De plaatjes zijn ook best te pas gekomen. Wij hebben veel voldoening gehad van onze kerst - boom in school. Het was zoo’n genot zulke blijde gezichten te zien, dus je kan wel voldoening hebben van je bezending, want zonder de photographietjes was ik niet in staat geweest voor allen wat te maken. Ik zend deze brief aan jou om je te vragen Willemien’s portret en onze brieven op Pa en Moe’s plaats te leggen als zij uit de kerk komen op Oude jaar’s avond. Ik hoop zoo je eene aangename vacantie t’huis gehad zult hebben. Wanneer zullen wij elkaar weer eens zien? Ik hoop zoo wij allen 21 Mei bij elkaar zullen mogen zijn, ik moet je over het een en ander eens om raad vragen maar zal daarmee wachten tot je weer rustig in Parijs zit. En nu is dit jaar weer bijna geeindigd en beginnen wij weêr een ander. Moge het voor ons allen een gelukkig en gezegend jaar zijn en wij toenemen in liefde voor God en elkander. Heb jij het ook goed en ontvang in gedachten een hartelijke kus van – Je je liefhebbende Anna. Consolation < Consolation , Ivy-Cottage Welwyn, 30 Dec. 1875. Dearest Vincent, Thanks for what you sent, how sweet of you to think of us in this way. Here chocolate is also thought of as Real Consolation , especially by Nelly . The pictures have also been put to good use. We got a great deal of satisfaction from our Christmas tree at school. It was a great joy to see such happy faces, so you can take satisfaction from what you sent, because I wouldn’t have been able to make something for everyone without those little photographs. I’m sending this letter to you to ask you to put Willemien ’s portrait and our letters on Pa and Ma ’s places when they come home from church on New Year’s Eve. I sincerely hope that you’ll have had a pleasant holiday at home. When will we see each other again? I hope very much that we may all be together on 21 May. Sometime I must ask your advice about this and that, but I’ll wait until you’re safely back in Paris. And now this year is almost over and we’re starting another. May it be a happy and blessed year for all of us, and may our love for God and one another grow. I wish you well, too, and receive in thought a hearty kiss from – Yours, your loving Anna . Nelly , who is not identified more specifically, was probably a girl living in the same house as Anna in Welwyn. Reproductions, presumably from one of the series published by Goupil & Co. Further on there is mention of ‘little photographs’. Mr and Mrs van Gogh ’s wedding anniversary; in 1876 they were to celebrate 25 years of marriage.
